When I jumped out to inspect the damage, I was relieved to find that my bag hadn't been squashed by a tire and was only stuck beneath the undercarriage. My GPS unit, Locator Beacon & First aid supplies were in the bag, and had those been crushed, this would have been a very expensive morning. My bag was too full to simply pull it out from under the car, so I attempted to unpack the contents of the bag while it was pinned below the frame. All this effort was in vain, as my first aid kit was impossible to remove from the pack. Despite my eloquent use of the english language and much kicking of gravel, the bag would not budge.
"Hi Ryan,
Of course the Osprey AMG covers vehicular packslaughter, and we would be happy to help you out with getting a new pack!
If you can fill out this form online, I can get back to you with a return authorization number, to send the pack to us for replacement.
Have a great day"
Well, this is just way too easy! I was worried that I would be waiting a while to receive my new pack and be stuck trying to use a smaller bag when guiding guests, but the folks at Osprey had me covered:
"Hi Ryan,
In certain cases like this one, where I don’t believe the frame of your pack can be adequately repaired (I’m actually surprised the frame didn’t snap, as the carbon lasts are not very flexible), we can do a direct swap for a replacement pack. Typically what this is entails is to get an RA# through our standard application form, then you ship the pack to us with a tracking number, and send us the tracking. Once we have confirmed the package is headed our way, we can issue a replacement pack, as this will speed along the process and only leave you in need of a bag for a few days tops.
Sound like a plan? Let me know what you think!"
Great plan, I love it! But what happens to the old, still mostly-useable backpack?
"As to the bag, we would normally inspect the pack, and, if it is still deemed safe for use by our specialists, we will have the back sent to our donations, which we disperse amongst the less fortunate."
Fantastic! So I boxed up the old pack and set it off for about $28 through Canada Post, emailed my tracking number off to Zachary at Osprey and waited for the new one.
Im really looking forward to filling this thing up and getting it out on the trail for a few days! I'll post a trail review video on Facebook after I've tested it out.
